This year the Writers Festival celebrates its ten-year anniversary with a schools program of comedy and intrigue featuring celebrated writers, Andy Griffiths and Deborah Abela.
Schools events will be held on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 August at the following locations:
Monday 7 August Murwillumbah Civic Hall 9.30-11.30am
Monday 7 August Byron Bay Beach Resort 12.45-2.45pm
Tuesday 8 August Lismore City Hall 9.30-11.30am
Tuesday 8 August Ballina RSL Auditorium 12.45-2.45pm
Andy Griffiths is an Australian publishing phenomenon and one of the country’s most successful writers of humour for young people. His books include the extremely popular JUST…. series, illustrated by Terry Denton, which has sold more than two million copies worldwide. The sixth book in this series is an extremely bad book called The Bad Book, which was in fact so bad that it won four Australian Children’s Choice Awards in 2005. Film rights to the popular The Day My Bum Went Psycho have recently been sold to filmmakers in the US . Andy lives in Melbourne where he currently divides his time between bum-fighting and working on a really stupid new book called The cat on the mat is flat due to be published in August.
Deborah Abela is the author of the Max Remy Superspy and Jasper Zammit series. There are eight Max books and three Jasper books published so far. When Deb was young, she spent her time imagining she was on great adventures all over the world. When she grew older she traveled the world and had real adventures. And when she came home, she started writing books about Max Remy, who with her spy partner Linen fights bad guys from Hollywood to Venice and the heart of the Amazon jungle. Jasper Zammit’s character was created with the help of soccer legend Johnny Warren, who sadly died before he could see the first book printed. Jasper is an 11-year-old who loves soccer and dreams of being just such a legend.
Andy and Deborah will each speak for half an hour at the session and then there will be a half hour for questions. For the last half hour of the session, the authors will be available to sign books. Copies of their books will be on sale.
The cost per student is $3.50 including GST. All students must be supervised appropriately and bookings need to be made through schools. Supervising adults are admitted for free. Any extra individual adults will be charged $11.00.
